MYB3 Spotlight on New Sunshine- A Salon Perspective

Our next Sponsor Spotlight is on another manufacturer who continues to support our events and training salons. New Sunshine brands eagerly look for ways to help salons grow their business. To get a salon perspective on this company we talked with Cole Johnson of Haute in Minnesota who was gracious enough to help us out.

Heartland: Cole, how long have you carried New Sunshine products?

Cole: We've carried some products (California Tan Restored, AG Bed Sanitizer, and smaller things) since 2013. Laura (my business partner) and I met Jason Brooks and Jordan Stamper at the 1st MYB in 2021. They were extremely welcoming to us and took the time to explain their products and company. We've tremendously increased the number of products we carry since then.

Heartland: Are you a New Sunshine Premier Salon?

Cole: We signed recently with them for premier.

Heartland: What made you decide to become a New Sunshine Premier Salon?

Cole: We decided to move forward with NSS mainly because the crew at New Sunshine made us feel like a priority. They have not only taken the time for training but also follow-ups on many aspects of their products. Jess Snider is a master at making products make sense specifically for your business and your needs. We've also looked to them for business and sales advice, in general, to make both sides more successful.

Heartland: We love Jess too. What do you like best about New Sunshine Products?

Cole: The diversity is amazing. Understanding the products and how they correlate to your customer's needs, wants and goals makes it easy to sell products confidently. Through their training, webinars, etc. we have expanded our knowledge base on their products to continue educating our customers on why they may want a product and how to best match a product to a customer's skin type and skincare goals.

Heartland: That is the type of information we hear salons asking for a lot, and why we feel that the webinars they provide are crucial for salons. About those products, what are your top sellers?

Cole: The Designer Skin line has been our strongest line, offering luxury skincare ingredients, large bottles, and amazing fragrances for anyone. Hemp Nation has done quite well for us as an at-home moisturizer/tan-extending lotion. We've also seen a lot of growth in JWOWW products at our salons, people are understanding her better and are loving the focus on skincare!

Heartland: Jenny really is hands-on with her product development. What would you say to someone thinking of partnering with New Sunshine?

Cole: New Sunshine has been the nicest, most knowledgeable partner we've ever had. They're extremely willing to make sure you understand the products and want to see you succeed. They make sure you feel like you're part of the team and they truly listen when you have questions or suggestions.

Heartland: Speaking of suggestions, any advice, or tips for other salons?

Cole: Meeting in person is how it started for us. Having our distributors' host events to meet in person put us in business together with NSS. Talk to your reps, get to know them, and help them understand what your goals are with your business, they're there to help!

Heartland: That we are! We had a blast with you at the MYB retreat last year, will we see you at the retreat this year?

Cole: Absolutely. We'd never miss an opportunity to see Tammy Reed do karaoke 😉. But honestly, we love the in-person events distributors put on. We get the most knowledge and information about the companies, products, etc. at in-person conferences. In-person carries so much weight and value and hope to see more to come!
