End Of The Year Checklist For Salons

Here is a helpful end-of-the-year checklist for salons to make sure you have everything in order:

  1. Check your financial records - make sure all your income and expenses are accounted for and that your books are up to date. This includes filing for any spiffs or manufacturer rebates. Ask your Business Support Rep for details.
  2. Review your taxes - contact a tax professional to review your financial records and ensure that you are filing the correct taxes in a timely manner. This includes the federal tanning tax enacted in 2010 as part of the Affordable Care Act. The tax applies to most indoor tanning services, including those that use ultraviolet lamps. When filing taxes, you should report the amount of the tanning tax paid on line 59 of Form 1040. It is important to note that the tanning tax does not apply to tanning products, such as lotions, sprays, and gels.
  3. Prepare for the new year - review any changes to taxes, regulations, or laws that may affect your business and make necessary adjustments. Matt Russell from the American Suntan Association will be speaking more about this in January at HTN!
  4. Update your business plan - review and update your business plan to ensure it is still relevant and in line with your goals.
  5. Review marketing efforts - evaluate the success of your marketing efforts and make any necessary changes for the coming year. We will be discussing marketing tactics during our virtual expo. Learn more at: heartlandtanexpo.com
  6. Set goals for the new year - create measurable goals for the upcoming year and determine how your business can best reach those goals.
  7. Connect with customers - take the time to connect with customers, thank them for their support, and see what changes they would like to see in the upcoming year. This will help you decide on improvements or added services for next season.
  8. Evaluate employees - review the performance of your employees and identify areas where they can improve in the new year. The HTN virtual expo is a fantastic opportunity to give your staff training and motivation before the 2023 tanning season.
  9. Invest in technology - review your current technology and determine if there are any upgrades or new tools that would help your business. Heartland is constantly looking at new technology to make servicing you more convenient. One new option is texting your business support rep.
  10. Celebrate your successes - take the time to celebrate your successes and appreciate all the hard work that you and your team have done. We appreciate the work and dedication you give to our industry.
